Cutters Even Series as Pitching Dominates

Final Score- Williamsport 6 Trenton 2

Trenton, NJ– The Cutters evened the series against Trenton with a 6–2 win. The Cutters pitching staff kept the Thunder scoreless over the final five innings while the defense made no errors.

The Williamsport offense got off to a slow start the first time through the lineup. The Cutters picked up only one hit by catcher Hogan McIntosh through the first three innings.

Trenton took the lead with a two-run home run by John Cristino off of starter Easton Sikorski. Sikorski threw scoreless innings in the first and the third, giving up two runs on four hits. He has an ERA of 2.00.

Trenton starting pitcher Micah Bucknam threw three scoreless innings giving up one hit.

The Cutters got on the board in the fourth inning with Bucknam out of the game. Third baseman Travis Holt led off the inning with a walk followed by back-to-back singles by first baseman Lance Logsdon and McIntosh to load the bases. The Cutters struck out twice before center fielder Michael Gupton was hit by a pitch to bring home a run. Second baseman Edarian Williams brought the tying run home by drawing a walk. Designated hitter Matthew Etzel flew out to centerfield to end the inning.

Shortstop Josue Urdanetta made a great play in the fourth inning throwing a runner out at home on a groundball to keep Trenton from retaking the lead. Relief pitcher J.J. Sanchez threw a three-up, three-down inning in the fifth.

The Cutters scored two runs again in the top of the sixth inning to take a 4–2 lead. Logsdon reached third base and Gupton reached first base with two outs. The speedy Gupton stole second allowing Logsdon to score and a well-executed double steal. Gupton stole third setting up an RBI single by Williams.

Antonio Escano took the mound in the sixth striking out three batters in a scoreless inning. The Cutters got some more breathing room in the top of the seventh with a two-run blast from McIntosh to cap off a three-hit night for the catcher. 

Trenton threatened to score in the bottom of the seventh inning getting its first two batters to second and third. Jacob Peaden forced a soft groundball to himself getting an easy first out. Peaden earned a strikeout and forced a groundout to shut the door.

The Cutters even the series with a 6–2 win with game three left to play Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
