
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Despite a 10-hit effort, the Crosscutters were denied in Sudden Death against the Frederick Keys on Saturday night, dropping their third-straight game.
Brad Rudis gave the Crosscutters another strong outing, allowing one run on to hits in five innings. Rudis worked around two walks and a hit batter, striking out six Keys batters.
Williamsport’s offense, for the second-straight night, was able to jump out to a 1st inning lead. After a Vantrel Reed single and steal of 2nd, Jackson Mayo clubbed an RBI single to give the Cutters a 1-0 lead. It was the 16th RBI of the season for Mayo.
The Cutters had a great scoring chance in the bottom of the 5th inning, seeing runners at 2md and 3rd with one out. Frederick starter, Harold Baez, retired the next two and kept the game tied 1-1.
After the Keys took the lead with a two-out single off of reliever Sam Swygert, the Cutters mustered their second run of the night in the bottom of the 6th.
Carlos Castillo flew a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring T.J Racherbaumer to knot the game at 2-2. It was Castillo’s 17th RBI of the season.
Jared Ure and Holland Townes combined to toss a pair of scoreless frames in the 8th and 9th innings, registering three strikeouts along the way.
The Crosscutters elected to stay on offense in Sudden Death with Vantrel Reed placed at 1st base.
Reed was picked off to open the session. After a Jackson Mayo strikeout, Max Mandler drew a two-out walk. Mandler would get no further as Racherbaumer popped out in foul ground to end the game.
The Crosscutters will look to salvage to series against the Frederick Keys Sunday afternoon. First pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
