Cutters Complete Two-Game Sweep of Thunder

Road Game - Trenton (8)

TRENTON, N.J. - One night after opening the season with a 13-4 victory, the Williamsport Crosscutters completed a two-game sweep of the Trenton Thunder with a 3-2 victory on Thursday Night at Trenton Thunder Ballpark.

Trenton would open the scoring with an RBI single to center by Aaron Graeber off of Cutters starter Bailey Matela to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead after one inning.

The top of the third would see Williamsport respond. Hayden Jatczak led things off with a single, Amman Dewberry reached thanks to a Trenton fielding error, and Matthew Graveline worked a walk to load the bases for Taeg Gollert. Gollert would answer the call with a single to left field to score Jatczak. During the next at-bat, both Dewberry and Graveline would score as well on the same Thunder wild pitch to give Williamsport a 3-1 lead.

The Thunder would answer back in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run by Carsten Sabathia III, the son of CC Sabathia, to cut the Cutters lead to 3-2.

Williamsport pitching would shut down the Thunder the rest of the way, allowing the Cutters to earn the 3-2 win and complete the series sweep of Trenton.

In his first Williamsport start, Bailey Matela earned the win after five innings of work, allowing two Trenton runs on four hits, including one home run, while walking just one batter and striking out seven.

Denton Biller, Dakota Stone and Brad Rudis combined to shut out the Thunder over four innings out of the bullpen as Biller and Stone earned a hold and Rudis earned a save.
