Cutters Complete Scrappers Sweep

Road Game - Mahoning Valley (1)

Niles, Ohio - The Williamsport Crosscutters completed the sweep of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Sunday by a score of 8-3 on Sunday afternoon at Eastwood Field in Niles, Ohio.

Williamsport got things going again early in Mahoning Valley as Jacob Corson picked up an RBI double in the first that scored Max Mandler to make it 1-0 after a half-inning of play.

Mahoning Valley responded with a two-out RBI single against Cutters starter Connor Shouse in the bottom of the first to tie the game up at 1.

Williamsport would retake the lead in the third thanks to the long ball. With Riley Nelson standing at second, Jackson Mayo would hit a line drive 362 feet over the right field wall. Not to be outdone, Anthony Stephan would blast a 407 foot solo home run of his own to right center, giving Williamsport a 4-1 lead in the middle of the third.

The Scrappers would get two of the runs back in the bottom of the third on a triple and a sac fly, but the Cutters would stay in front at 4-3 after three.

In the fifth with two outs, Jacob Corson would walk and Jackson Mayo would single, setting up Anthony Stephan for his second RBI of the day as he singled to left to score Corson. Mayo would score again as well on the next at-bat as Zane Becker picked up an RBI single to make it 6-3 Williamsport.

The Cutters found the scoreboard for the final time in the seventh and it was once again Anthony Stephan adding an RBI to his total, this time on a sac fly that scored Jacob Corson, who reached on his second walk of the day. Carter Dorighi would earn the final RBI of the ballgame as he singled to right to score Jackson Mayo, who singled earlier in the inning to bring the final score to 8-3 in favor of Williamsport.

Connor Shouse got the start on the mound for Williamsport, picking up the win after six innings of work, surrendering three runs, all earned, on three hits, four walks and six strikeouts to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Alex Clemons and Jimmy Romano worked the final three innings out of the bullpen. Clemons went two innings of no-hit pitching, allowing no runs on two walks and two strikeouts. Romano went the final inning in a non-save situation allowing no runs and no hits with one walk and no strikeouts.
