Williamsport, Pa. – Kenney Fabian’s best start of the summer was backed by a 14-hit performance as the Cutters best the Thunder, 11-6 on Saturday night.
Fabian delivered his longest outing of the season, working six innings on one-run ball. The right-hander allowed five hits, striking out four and did not allow a walk.
The Cutters offense was quick to back Fabian, using the legs of Owen Prince to score the opening run. Prince drew a lead off walk, stole both 2nd and 3rd and scored on a sacrifice fly from James McCoy to make it 1-0.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Sam DeCarlo connected on a two-out, two-run home run to left, scoring Nicholas Romano to up the lead to 3-0. For DeCarlo, it was his first home run of the season.
The Cutters would send all nine to the plate in the bottom of the 3rd inning, plating three more runs with the help of RBI singles from James McCoy and Nick Barone to give the Cutters a 6-0 advantage through three innings.
Joey DeMucci added to the Williamsport lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the 5th, scoring Romano to make it 7-0. It was the third RBI of the season for DeMucci.
Matthew Williams opened the bottom of the 6th with a rocket of a home run to left-center, his 4th of the season. Williams’ homer traveled an estimated 399 feet and left the bat with a 107MPH exit velocity, to give the Cutters a 8-1 lead.
In the same inning, Sam DeCarlo recorded his third RBI of the night, singling in Romano to up the lead to 9-1.
Joey DeMucci picked up his second RBI of the night and Owen Price plated another as the Cutters scored two more runs in the bottom of the 8th inning, taking a 11-1 lead into the 9th.
Tyler Muscar took over in the 7th inning for the Cutters, working a pair of scoreless frames despite having to work with traffic on the bases in each inning.
Preston Drebes came on in the top of the 9th inning, allowing five runs (three earned) in a third of an inning. Drebes was relieved with the bases loaded, as Booby Helt took to the hill. Helt allowed two inherited runs, but was able two get the final two outs to close out the win.
The Cutters look to sweep the two-game set against the Thunder Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
