FREDERICK, Md. - Due to rain, today’s game between the Williamsport Crosscutters and the Frederick Keys was called after seven innings. It is considered an official game with a 6-6 final score and all stats will be counted with no winning or losing pitchers.
The Frederick Keys, for the first time in this series, was the team to open the scoring, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning thanks to an Isaiah Greene home run.
The Williamsport Crosscutters responded with two runs of their own in the top of the third. Jackson Mayo hit a one-out single to right, followed by a ground-rule double off the bat of DJ Smiley to put two in scoring position. Max Mandler picked up an RBI single to score Mayo and move Smiley to third, who then scored on a Marcus Brodil RBI groundout to tie the game at 2-2.
The Keys would strike for three more runs in the bottom of the third, scoring one run on an AJ Campbell wild pitch and two more on an Ethan Ott home run to make it 5-2 Keys through three innings.
The scoreboard then went quiet until the sixth inning when the Cutters capitalized on Keys miscues to take their first lead of the ballgame. Carlos Castillo worked a leadoff walk, followed by a Joey Parliment single. Two batters later, Marquis Jackson worked a walk to load up the bases before a wild pitch by Keys pitcher Anderson Cuello-Batista allowed Castillo to score. Two batters later, it was another walk to load the bases, this time worked by Jackson Mayo. This brought DJ Smiley to the plate, who singled and thanks to a fielding error by second baseman Parks Bouck, was able to push across both Parliment and Jackson. This was followed up by back-to-back walks by Max Mandler to load the bases once again and by Marcus Brodil to push across Mayo to give the Cutters the 6-5 lead in the middle of the sixth.
After a Cutters pitching change, Frederick added their third home run of the game, this time a solo shot by Cam Hassert, to tie the game back up at 6-6 through seven innings.
At the end of the seventh inning, a storm moved through that forced the game to be called as a 6-6 tie.
AJ Campbell got the start for Williamsport and worked the first three innings in a no-decision. Campbell allowed five Keys runs on six hits, including two home runs, with two walks and two strikeouts.
Sam Swygert entered in relief of Campbell and went the next three innings of shutout baseball, allowing four hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Jed Boyle pitched the final inning of play, allowing the home run that tied up the game in the seventh. Boyle was charged with a blown save, his first.
