Cosper, Flaherty Lead Cutters to Third Straight Win

TRENTON, N.J. - Led by standout performances by the defending MLB Draft League Pitcher of the Week Colton Cosper and returning catcher Matt Flaherty, the Williamsport Crosscutters pushed their current win streak to three games with a 5-2 victory over the Trenton Thunder on Monday night at Trenton Thunder Ballpark.

Coming off back-to-back 1-2-3 innings, the Williamsport Crosscutters offense came alive in the fourth inning to be the first to find the scoreboard. The defending UPMC Player of the Week, Jackson Mayo, got it started with a one-out double, his second of the day and sixth of the season. Mayo would then move to third on a single by Marcus Brodil and scored the first run of the game on a Joey Parliment double. This was followed by a Max Mandler 2 RBI single to right, scoring Brodil and Parliment. Two batters later, Mandler scored as well on a single from Matt Flaherty to give the Cutters the 4-0 lead after three and a half innings.

It would take Trenton until the seventh inning to respond as pinch-hitter Cameron Yuran blasted a 399 foot two-run home run to right-center to cut the Williamsport lead in half at 4-2.

Matt Flaherty would get the Cutters lead back to three runs in the eighth with his a double to left that scored Max Mandler, who reached with a lead-off single, to cap the scoring as Williamsport went on to win 5-2 over Trenton.

Colton Cosper earned his first win in his second start for the Crosscutters after a six-inning outing, shutting out Trenton while surrendering seven hits and walking one while striking out five.

Jax Howard surrendered two Thunder runs on a home run and only recorded one out.

Isaac Fix came in to stop the bleeding and went the final 2.2 innings allowing no hits, walking two and striking out one to earn his first save of the season.

Williamsport and Trenton will conclude this two-game series on Tuesday morning. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Trenton Thunder Ballpark.
