Break Out The Brooms! Cutters Complete Series Sweep

Road Game - Trenton (2)

Trenton, NJ - For the first time in the young season, the Williamsport Crosscutters have completed a series sweep, doing so at Trenton Thunder Ballpark with a 10-9 victory on Sunday afternoon. All three games of the series saw Williamsport reach double-digit runs scored against the Thunder.

Williamsport starting the scoring in the top of the second as, with two outs, Dalton Robinson worked a bases loaded walk to push across Riley Nelson. That gave the Cutters the 1-0 lead, which held until the third inning.

It was quick back to the scoreboard for Williamsport for Jackson Mayo, who led off the frame with a 372 ft. solo home run belted towards the Delaware River to make it 2-0. Later in the third, JM Long added an RBI of his own on a single that scored Riley Nelson, making it 3-0 in favor of the Cutters after three innings.

In the fourth, Riley Nelson would change up his role from the guy scoring the runs to the guy driving in the runs as he flew a single out to left field that was deep enough to score both Blake Simpson and Jackson Mayo. The very next at-bat saw Carter Dorighi single as well, bringing home Joshua Lopez to give the Cutters a 6-0 lead after three and a half innings of play.

The scoring would subside until the bottom of the sixth inning with Trenton recording their first run and trimming the Williamsport lead to 5 at 6-1 through six innings.

Trenton would see their offense come to life as the Cutters went to the bullpen, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Williamsport would respond quickly with four runs of their own in the top of the eighth. It would be Riley Nelson driving in another run to start it off, this time lining a single into centerfield to push across Joshua Lopez. Five batters later with the bases loaded, Dalton Robinson would work an RBI walk that scored Nelson, Blake Simpson picked up an RBI walk to score Cole Russo, and Jackson Mayo joined the party with an RBI walk of his own to score Lawson Knight to make it 10-5 Williamsport in the middle of the eight.

Trenton rallied again in the bottom of the eighth but Connor Shouse came into the game on the hill to stop the bleeding and preserve a 10-9 Williamsport lead heading into the ninth.

Williamsport threatened in the ninth but was unable to plate any insurance runs. In the bottom of the frame, Trenton was able to load the bases but Shouse left them loaded and Williamsport completed the series sweep of the Trenton Thunder by a final score of 10-9.

Zachary Murray earned his second win in his second start in a Crosscutters uniform, going 6.0 innings of work allowing just one run on two hits, seeing his ERA move to 0.75 for the season.

Colby Gromlich was first out of bullpen, only working 1.2 innings after allowing eight runs on six hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.

Connor Shouse was called on to close the game out for the second night in a row and survived bases loaded to earn the save. Shouse went the final 1.1 innings, holding Trenton off the scoreboard while allowing just one hit, walking two, and striking out two, earning the save.
