The Williamsport Crosscutters 25th anniversary season may not have been a huge success in the win-loss column but the squad still provided plenty of fun and excitement for fans this summer at Muncy Bank Ballpark.
Ryan Ignoffo was a Cutters standout on the first-half roster. Ignoffo saw action at 1B, 2B, 3B, RF and DH while hitting a robust .385. He also pitched in 4 games striking out 7 batters in 5.2 innings with an ERA of 3.18. His versatility and success paid off when he was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 20th round of the MLB Draft in July.
In the second-half of the season OF Brayland Skinner provided offensive excitement with a .333 batting average that was highlighted by a league-best 18-game hitting streak. On the mound RHP Shaun Gamelin was a perfect 6-0 with a 3.32 ERA.
The MLB Draft League adopted some of the rule changes that appeared at the Major League level in ’23 as pitch clocks and larger bases made their debut around the league.
One other change that proved popular in 2022 and continued in 2023, was the implementation of a “sudden death” format to replace extra innings. If a game is tied at the end of regulation play, the teams play an extra half-inning to determine a winner.
The Trenton Thunder hosted the West Virginia Black Bears in the 2023 MLB Draft League Championship Game on September 3. West Virginia prevailed 9-4 to win the MLB Draft League title for the 2nd year in a row.
Skinner was named the Williamsport Crosscutters MVP and Gamelin won the Rankin Johnson Award for the Cutters Pitcher of the Year
