Thursday - Championship
West Virginia (12) @ State College (5): BOX SCORE - The West Virginia Black Bears cemented the 2025 season with their third MLB Draft League Championship in the last four years.
The first four innings featured back-and-forth blows with the Spikes taking a 1-0 lead in the first on a T.J. Overall, Frei accounted for four runs while reaching in all five plate appearances with a 3-for-3 game, two RBI, two runs and two walks.
Two runs in the third by State College would be their last until the ninth while the Black Bears scored 10 in the fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth for the most runs scored by a winning team in league championship history. In that time, Jace Rinehart drove in two runs and scored two runs as he ended the night 4-for-6 with a double, and Judah Morris went 3-for-5 with a run, RBI, stolen base and double.

In the bottom of the ninth, Cole Caruso delivered the game’s only home run with a deep blast to left field (403 ft, 103.8-mph exit velocity) for State College. However, the rally would stop there as Wes Burton closed the game out for the Black Bears’ third championship by retiring the next three in order for the victory.
In the league’s four years of holding a Championship game, West Virginia has appeared in, and won three times (2022, 2023 and 2025). This year marked their second title won on the road as second half champions, doing so in 2023 against the Trenton Thunder.
