UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - It was an unhappy night in Happy Valley for the Williamsport Crosscutters as the Cutters saw their six-game win streak come to an end in a 3-0 shutout loss to the State College Spikes on Thursday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
Williamsport’s offense only managed two hits with a single by Joey DeMucci to lead off the third inning and a single by James McCoy to lead off the ninth inning.
Williamsport did get seven baserunners in the shutout loss with walks being worked by Santino Panaro, Jack Kail, Chris Stanfield, Nicholas Romano and AJ Solomon.
The Cutters also struck out 14 times in the loss.
Bobby Helt went six innings in his start, shutting out the Spikes and allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out eight.
Davin Pollard suffered the loss, falling to 0-3 on the season, after allowing two runs on one hit with one strikeout.
Brody Roe gave up a hit in a third of an inning of work.
Luc Lavigueur allowed an unearned run on one hit and two walks in a third of an inning.
Tyler Muscar worked the final 2/3 of an inning perfect to end the game.
This six-game series now shifts to Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field for Games #2 & #3. First pitch for Saturday’s game between the Crosscutters and the Spikes is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
