Cutters Fall in Regular Season Finale to Spikes; Still Capture 2nd Half Title

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Williamsport Crosscutters suffered an 8-4 defeat at the hands of the State College Spikes in their regular season finale on Tuesday but thanks to Trenton’s 12-4 victory over the Aberdeen IronBirds, the Crosscutters clinched the MLB Draft League 2nd Half Championship.

Williamsport drove two home runs in the loss. Jack Kail had his second home run of the series and third of the season, a 402-foot drive to right-center field. Trey Wells also picked up his third home run of the season, a 406-foot blast to left field. Both home runs were solo shots.

James McCoy drove in the other two Cutters runs on a 1-for-5 night with a 2 RBI single in the ninth.

Joel Tornero took the loss, falling to 1-2, after allowing three runs on five hits with six walks and six strikeouts over 4.2 innings.

Luc Lavigueur worked one inning, allowing three more runs on four hits.

Brody Roe went two innings allowing two runs on four hits with a strikeout.Davin Pollard got the final out on the mound for the Cutters with a strikeout.

The 1st Half and 2nd Half Champion Williamsport Crosscutters return home to Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field on Wednesday to host the 2nd Half 2nd Place Aberdeen IronBirds in the 2026 MLB Draft League Championship Game. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with a rally towel giveaway to the first 1,500 fans plus a post-game drone show.
