Frederick, MD– The Frederick Keys (9-8) defeated the Trenton Thunder (4-11) on Thursday night by a final score of 5-3 from Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.

Two home runs from the Keys offense and a six-out save from Jacob Schultz (Louisiana-Lafayette) helped Frederick take the one and only game of the series against Trenton.

The two previous games of the series were rained out.

Trenton brought the tying and go-ahead runs to the plate in the 8th and 9th innings against Schultz. With the rain continuing to come down as the game went along, the right-hander didn’t buckle under pressure and ended each of the innings with strikeouts to secure his third save of the summer.

On offense, Robert Brooks (Columbus State) and Jake Plastiak (Kentucky) both homered and collected two RBI each on the night. Calvin Rucker (Savannah State) also collected an RBI in the 4th.

Plastiak’s home run in the 4th was his first in over a month.

On the mound, starting right-hander Brett Taucher (Quincy University) earned the win after going 5.0 innings, allowing only two hits, one run, three walks and striking out four.

The Keys will host the Mahoning Valley Scrappers for a three-game series beginning tomorrow, Friday, August 12.

In addition to the first 1,000 fans receiving an Orioles Hawaiian shirt giveaway, it’s Wrestling Night at the ballpark with a special guest appearance by WWE legend “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. There will also be postgame fireworks, presented by Woodsboro Bank. First pitch tomorrow is at 7:00 pm.
