Final Score Keys 3 and Scrappers 7

FREDERICK, MD - The Keys offense only mustered one hit on Wednesday, dropping the middle game of their three-game set to Mahoning Valley by a 7-3 final.

Garrett Harker (Cincinnati) allowed two hits in the first inning, but only one run courtesy of an RBI groundout.

In the bottom half, Frederick walked three times against Ahmad Harajli (Michigan) but did not score.

After three straight walks started the inning, Kendrey Maduro (Northwest Florida State) was able to start a 6-3 double play that scored a run. However, the Scrappers would get one more run thanks to a double from Colton Coates (Desoto Central HS/Louisiana Tech). Coates would finish his night with three hits.

After Harker stranded two runners in the third inning, Ny’Zaiah Thompson (Mountain House HS/Cal State Fullerton) was the spark plug of the fourth inning for Mahoning Valley. It started with a two out RBI double, and Thompson eventually came around to score on a wild pitch.

Dante Leach (Southern Illinois) kept the scoring going in the fifth with an RBI single of his own.

After Harajli left the game after five scoreless innings with five strikeouts, he gave way to Isaiah Jackson (Heartland CC/Missouri). Jackson started the inning with a walk and hit batter before retiring the next two he faced. With two outs, Fredrick mustered four straight walks, two of which scored runs. Ty Hamilton (Sir Wilfred Laurier HS/Utah) and Dennis Kasumba (Hannah HS, Uganda) drew bases loaded walks, and Maduro scored on a wild pitch. It was a great moment for Kasumba, who recorded his first Draft League RBI. The three runs cut the game to 6-3.

Kendrey Maduro recorded the Key’s only hit with a one out double in the seventh inning.

The Scrappers got their final run across with two outs in the ninth via a double from Conor Capece (Omaha Gross Catholic HS/Creighton).

Notes:

  • Lucas Hartman (Florida Southwestern State) was a standout on the mound, pitching two perfect innings with three strikeouts
  • Jack Sellinger (UNLV) struck out the side in order in the eighth inning for the Scrappers
