FREDERICK, MD – Jack Maruskin (2023) became the latest Frederick Keys alumni to ink a professional contract this spring as he signed with the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars of the Atlantic League on March 12 for this coming season.
The former Frostburg State Bobcat moves to Hagerstown ahead of their first game on April 25 and was one of the first of five newcomers announced to the Boxcars roster for the 2025 campaign.
Maruskin pitched for the Keys in 2023 and excelled during the first half with a 3.18 ERA in 11.1 innings pitched. The Governor Thomas Johnson High School graduate compiled 15 strikeouts and allowed only six walks, helping the Keys in several late-inning situations throughout the first 40 games that summer.
The Rockville native then found his way to his hometown Baltimore Orioles farm system where he pitched in four games for the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds. In 5.1 innings, Maruskin recorded eight strikeouts in 23 batters faced, and finished two games on the hill as a late arm out of the bullpen.
Last summer, Maruskin got a second opportunity in the MLB Draft League with the West Virginia Black Bears where he retired 24 batters on strikeouts and accumulated a 3.38 ERA. He also earned three saves and threw 14 games of relief during the 2024 campaign in Morgantown before pitching in 13 games for the Orioles in rookie ball that same year.
The Frederick Keys begin their 2025 season against the West Virginia Black Bears on Wednesday June 4 at 7 p.m. at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. Tickets and the promotional schedule will be released at a later date.
