Frederick Keys Snap Three-Game Skid in Win over Trenton

Keys win fifth straight over Thunder

Frederick, MD– The Frederick Keys (14-15) defeated the Trenton Thunder (15-15) on Friday night by a final score of 6-5 from Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.

After falling into an early 3-0 hole in the top of the 1st, the Keys fought back with two runs in the bottom of the 1st, behind a solo home run by Harold Coll (San Jacinto College) and two errors by Trenton on a pickoff play, scoring Kendall Ewell (Eastern Kentucky) all the way from first.

The Keys scored three in the 3rd to take a two-run lead only for Trenton to answer back with two runs in the 4th to tie things up.

With the game all squared at 5-5 heading into the bottom of the 6th, Jake Plastiak (Kentucky) launched his team-leading fifth homer of the season to left-center field, a 442-foot home run to give the Keys the lead for good.

The Keys bullpen of Jose Suero (Wayland Baptist), Cobe Reeves (Coastal Bend College) and DJ Carpenter (Oregon State) combined for 6.0 shutout innings of relief and six strikeouts with Cam Tullar (Mississippi State) inducing a game-ending double play with the bases loaded in the 9th to secure the save and victory.

Frederick’s next game is Saturday, July 9 vs Trenton with first pitch scheduled at 6:00 pm from Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. The Keys will be having “Christmas in July” at the ballpark.
