Frederick Keys Rally in Ninth to Win at State College

Keys snap three-game losing streak

Frederick, MD– The Frederick Keys (8-8) rallied for four runs in the 9th to win 7-3 over the State College Spikes (6-10) on Monday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

In a 3-3 game with two outs in the 9th, shortstop Nander de Sedas (Missouri) grounded a go-ahead RBI double down the right field line to give the Keys a 4-3 lead, one of his game-high three hits.

Two more runs came in to score on a throwing error by State College third baseman Ty Hill, one of four errors by the Spikes defense on Monday night. Catcher Carlos Guzman (Northwest Florida State College) knocked in the fourth run of the inning with an RBI infield single.

Starting pitcher and right-hander Allan Saathoff (Erskine College) struck out four in 3.0 innings of work while allowing two earned runs. The Keys bullpen of Zack Qin (MLB China Academy), Anthony Figueroa (Dyersburg St.), Connor Godwin (College of Central Florida), and Cam Tullar (Mississippi State) pitched magnificently the rest of the way, striking out 10 while only allowing one run and three hits.

Godwin got the win after 2.0 shutout innings and striking out four.

Frederick will play State College again on Tuesday when the Keys take on the Spikes for the second game of the three-game series. First pitch for tomorrow’s game is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
