Frederick Keys Go Down in Series Opener vs Mahoning Valley

Frederick, MD– The Frederick Keys (6-5) lost game one of their three game series to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (10-1), the best team in the Draft League, by a final score of 7-4 in a seven-inning contest from Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.

Kyle Ayers (Los Angeles Valley College) pitched extremely well for most of his outing in his first start as a Key, striking out seven hitters in his first 10 batters faced while going 4.0 innings. His only mistake was a two-run home run to Mahoning Valley first baseman Zach Dezenzo in the 4th inning.

The Keys held a 2-0 lead heading into the fourth and a 3-2 lead heading into the fifth but the bullpen couldn’t get the job done. The Scrappers scored three runs in the 5th and two runs in the 6th to give themselves a lead they would not relinquish.

Right handers Connor Godwin (College of Central Florida) and Jean Paul Ramos Pena (Carolina, Puerto Rico) each pitched an inning and struck out two out of the bullpen.

Shortstop Nander de Sedas (Missouri) led the way offensively with two hits and two RBI in the losing effort.

Frederick will host Mahoning Valley once again Wednesday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 pm at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. The Keys will be hosting Bark In the Park Night and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Night, presented by Dogtopia of Frederick and the Maryland School for the Deaf, respectively.
