Early Runs Help Trenton Take Game Three

Final Score- Williamsport 2 Trenton 6

Trenton, NJ– The Crosscutters offense could not find momentum as the Trenton Thunder took the series with a 6–2 win. The Williamsport bullpen had another strong performance, but the offense could not overcome an early five-run deficit.

The Cutters opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Centerfielder Matthew Etzel led off the inning with a double setting up an RBI single by first baseman Tayden Hall for a 1–0 lead.

Trenton turned the game around quickly scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the bottom of the second inning for a 5–1 lead. Trenton hit five doubles in the first two innings. 

The Cutters earned a run back in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 5–2. Left fielder Logan Flood drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third on a single by second baseman Edarian Williams. Right fielder Michael Gupton grounded into a double play, scoring Flood from third.

Williamsport relievers another solid game as six relief pitchers combined to give up one run on seven hits with nine seven combined strikeouts. Braden Nett threw a 1-2-3 inning in the third while Connor Fenlong, Andrew Walling, Kyler Patterson and Lex Garcia each tossed a scoreless inning on the mound. 

The only run given up by the bullpen was in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Caleb McNeely that made it 6–2. 

The Cutters had seven hits and five walks on the night but could only manage two runs as the offense was 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. 

Trenton takes the series win as the Cutters return to Williamsport for an off-day on Thursday and a home game against State College on Friday, July 8 at 6:35 p.m. 

Williamsport remains in first place in the Draft League with a one-game lead over the West Virginia Black Bears.
