Keys defeat Trenton Thunder 8-5

Frederick, MD – The Frederick Keys opened the 2022 MLB Draft League season with a 8-5 victory over the defending Draft League champions Trenton Thunder in front of a crowd of 3,029 at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.

Northwest Florida State College catcher Carlos Guzman had a career night in his debut, going 4-for-4 with 6 RBI. The Missouri State commit had three singles and a tie-breaking 3-run home run to left-center in the seventh inning, part of a 5-run seventh inning to give the Keys the lead for good.

Frederick starting pitcher Carter Bosch (Georgetown) pitched well in his first start as a Key, going five innings and allowing only one hit and one earned run while striking out seven.

Relievers Cam Tullar (Mississippi State) and Devin Milberg (Dartmouth) shined out of the bullpen, pitching a scoreless inning of relief each. Milberg earned the win as well.

Closer Jose Suero (Wayland Baptist) earned the save, striking out three in 1.1 innings.

The second game of the four-game series will be held Friday, June 3.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM and will be the first fireworks night of the summer.
