Frederick, MD– The Frederick Keys (8-8) were defeated by the West Virginia Black Bears (10-6) on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 6-4 from Monongalia County Ballpark in Morgantown, West Virginia.

With Frederick hoping for the sweep, West Virginia led by six heading into the 7th after a wild pitch brought home the first run of the game in the 1st and the Black Bears scored five in the 6th.

The Frederick bats clawed in the 7th and 8th. An RBI double to left-center by Matt Oldham (NC State) in the 7th drove in the first run of the game and a three-run double by Jake Plastiak (Kentucky) to left-center cut the deficit to two with nobody out in the 8th.

However, West Virginia’s closer Grayson Thurman struck out the side to end the frame and limit the damage.

Thurman proceeded to pitch a perfect 9th to seal the win for West Virginia.

Starting right-handed pitcher Jonathan Pintaro (Shorter University) went 5.1 IP, allowing six hits, five runs, five earned, two walks and six strikeouts, earning the loss.

The Keys will return home to Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium on Tuesday, August 9 to host a three-game series against the Trenton Thunder. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
